HC Deb 23 May 1944 vol 400 c570
46. Mr. Mainwaring

asked the Prime Minister whether, having regard to the extent and widespread location of forestry in Wales and Monmouthshire together with the possible acquirement of further acreage for development purposes, he will consider appointing a specific Welsh representative to the Forestry Commission.

The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

The term of office of the present Commissioners expires in a few months. My hon. Friend's point will be borne in mind in considering future arrangements.

Mr. Mainwaring

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind, when the time comes, that after the last war Wales suffered to a considerable degree from the after effects? It is because we fear so much a recurrence that we are anxious to put every pressure behind the Forestry Commission.

Mr. Attlee

Yes, I am very conscious of that.
