HC Deb 23 May 1944 vol 400 c561
25. Mr. Boothby

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is taking any steps to ensure that the manufacture of aircraft and aircraft accessories is continued in Scotland after the war.

Mr. T. Johnston

Yes, Sir. I am very concerned that Scotland should share in the post-war manufacture of aircraft and aircraft accessories, and representations in particular instances have been made to my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Air and the Minister of Aircraft Production.

Mr. Gallacher

In order to make sure that Scotland obtains a certain measure of this industry, will the Minister see that he uses his very great influence with the Government to retain control of the industry when the war is over? If it gets into private hands, Scotland is finished, and the Minister knows that.

Mr. Johnston

That is another question, which I should like to see on the Order Paper.
