HC Deb 18 May 1944 vol 400 cc333-4
42. Sir T. Moore

asked the Attorney-General how many independent appeal tribunals have now been set up; how many cases have been heard; and how many appeals have been successful.

The Solicitor-General (Major Sir David Maxwell Fyfe)

I will give the figures for the whole of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Up to 12th May, 14 pensions appeal tribunals had been set up; 4,615 appeals had been heard, and 1,056 appeals had been allowed.

Sir T. Moore

In view of the general appreciation of these tribunals, may I ask whether it is intended to set up more of them?

The Solicitor-General

For the next few months we do not anticipate an increase in the flow of cases. About September we anticipate that there will be a greater flow, and at that time we will be in a position to set up more tribunals.
