HC Deb 18 May 1944 vol 400 c341
43. Mr. Hewlett

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is in a position to report on the possibility of producing penicillin in any bacteriological laboratory with a well-trained staff.

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply (Mr. Peat)

Small quantities of penicillin in its crude filtrate form can be produced in any bacteriological laboratory. This penicillin could be used for treatment in certain classes of case under special medical supervision. Such laboratories would not be able to make any significant amounts of pure penicillin for general distribution.
