HC Deb 10 May 1944 vol 399 c1888
21. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Secretry of State for the Colonies whether the report of Sir Cosmo Parkinson can be available on the following points: Mauritius Constitution, trade union, conciliation and industrial law, greater financial provision for Government poor house, condition of Jewish refugees, disturbances last year at the Bellevue sugar estate and implementation of the Orde Brown Labour Report.

Colonel Stanley

No, Sir. Sir Cosmo Parkinson has visited certain Colonies in the course of the last two years, including Mauritius, on behalf of my predecessor and myself; those visits have been undertaken mainly with the object of making personal contacts and discussing matters of concern to the Colonies with the Governors, and they do not lend themselves to the preparation of written reports. If, however, there is any particular point regarding Mauritius on which the hon. Member wishes for information and will be good enough to communicate with me, I will gladly give him such information as I can.
