HC Deb 10 May 1944 vol 399 cc1905-6
59. Dr. Little

asked the Minister of Food how many barrels of beer, of 36 gallons each, are shipped annually to Eire from Great Britain and how many barrels of stout of the same capacity are shipped per annum from Eire to Great Britain; and if in both cases the required cereals are provided from grain grown in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Mabane

In regard to the first part of the Question, it is not in the national interest to disclose figures of exports and imports during war time. The answer to the second part of the question is "Yes, Sir."

Dr. Little

Does the Minister not consider it advisable to let the country know what is already well-known in certain circles?

Mr. Mabane

I am not sure what is known in certain circles.

Mr. Mathers

Is it considered in the national interest that the Minister of Food should be dealing with imports and exports of: such materials?
