The country's coal resources are being surveyed by the Fuel Research Organisation and the Geological Survey of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in co-operation with the Coal Commission and my Department. A survey of the quality of the coal in the various seams being worked was begun some years ago by the Fuel Research Organisation and had reached an advanced stage before the war. The information so obtained is now being used in a survey of the reserves to ascertain the quantities available of different qualities of coal.
