HC Deb 04 May 1944 vol 399 c1465
39. Mr. Touche

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether next Whitsun Monday is to be a Bank Holiday.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Assheton)

I have been asked to reply. The announcement of the Government's view on holidays in 1944, made by the Ministry of Labour and National Service on 17th February last, included Whit Monday in the list of approved holidays. Accordingly no steps have been taken, or are in contemplation, to amend the statutory provisions which make Whit Monday a Bank Holiday in England and Wales and Northern Ireland.
