HC Deb 03 May 1944 vol 399 c1312
30. Mr. Jewson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps the Government are taking to deal with leprosy in Nigeria and to prevent its spread.

Colonel Stanley

I am at present considering comprehensive proposals made by the Government of Nigeria for the development and extension of leprosy control work in the Territory.

Dr. Morgan

Seeing that social conditions are responsible for a great deal of leprosy, will the Minister do all he can, apart from medical measures, to see that the standard of living is raised?

Colonel Stanley

Certainly, Sir. There are two aspects of this question, one the direct attack on leprosy and the other prevention by the raising of the standard of life.
