HC Deb 03 May 1944 vol 399 cc1310-1
31. Captain Plugge

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the reason why the news of the recent seizure of illegal arms in Palestine was not made known locally nor permitted to be sent here until it was announced by the Vichy radio.

Colonel Stanley

No restrictions were placed on the publication of news of the arms seizure which took place on l0th April. The item was included in the daily news bulletin issued to the Press by the Public Information Officer at 6 p.m. on the evening of 21st April.

Captain Plugge

Can my right hon. and gallant Friend say how it is that Vichy can get this information from Palestine, which is occupied by us?

Colonel Stanley

Because certain agencies wireless the news back and, presumably, Vichy picks it up from one of them.
