§ 26. Mr. Keelingasked the Minister of Fuel and Power how many tons of coal were lost during the last six months, respectively, through stoppages of work and through restriction of output; and what this loss of tonnage represents in terms of the present monthly allowance of house coal for 1,000,000 homes.
Major Lloyd GeorgeThe estimated tonnage lost during the 26 weeks ended the 11th March, 1944, owing to disputes in the coal industry was 1,508,000 tons. No information is available on a national basis regarding the tonnage lost owing to restriction of output. It is not possible to say how much of the tonnage lost would otherwise have been distributed as house coal, and it cannot, therefore, be expressed in terms of the present maximum permitted quantities.
