HC Deb 22 March 1944 vol 398 cc847-8
42. Mr. Daggar

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he is aware of the crowded state, including corridors, of trains leaving Newport, Monmouthshire, for London, especially the 10.38 a.m. on Mondays and that it is not unusual for scores of soldiers, sailors and airmen having to stand all the way to Paddington and afterwards to continue their journey to Newcastle; and if he is taking steps to deal with this problem.

Mr. Noel-Baker

It is true that the passenger trains between Newport, Monmouthshire, and London are very heavily loaded; so are most of the main line passenger trains throughout the country. I regret it is not at present possible to provide additional trains.
