HC Deb 22 March 1944 vol 398 cc848-9
43. Mr. Mathers

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he has yet received the views of the responsible authorities regarding the relative merits of the Mackintosh Rock and Inchgarvie sites for a bridge over the Forth; and whether he will cause the competing schemes to be independently considered in all their aspects.

Mr. Noel-Baker

The joint committee of the local authorities have not yet sent me their views on the relative merits of the two schemes. When they do so I will certainly consider whether it is desirable that the schemes should be examined independently.

Mr. Mathers

Is my hon. Friend aware that examination on behalf of local authorities is being carried out by the engineers responsible for one of the schemes? Will he keep that in mind in considering the question of an independent examination of the position?

Mr. Noel-Baker

Yes, Sir, I will certainly keep that in mind.

Mr. Gallacher

Will my hon. Friend have copies of the plans that are in existence put in the Library for the benefit of Scottish and other Members who wish to see them?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I do not like to interfere with what the local authorities are doing now.
