HC Deb 22 March 1944 vol 398 cc831-2
5. Sir Geoffrey Shakespeare

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will take steps to improve and centralise the machinery for supplying to relatives information about prisoners of war in the Far East.

Mr. Eden

I am in consultation on this subject with my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for War, and other Ministers concerned, with a view to ascertaining what improvement in this machinery can be effected.

Sir G. Shakespeare

Can my right hon. Friend give any indication of how long it will be before this is done?

Mr. Eden

No, Sir; I do realise the desire for this, and we will be as rapid as we can. This, as my hon. Friend knows, is a very complicated question, which concerns a number of other Departments as well.
