§ 12. Mr. Kenneth Lindsayasked the Minister of Labour whether he will take steps to encourage employers and trade unions to release young workers for an additional week's holiday so that they can attend pre-service, forestry and harvesting camps.
§ Mr. BevinAs I informed my hon. Friend, in reply to his similar Question on 1st April, 1943, I am sympathetic with the object he has in mind, and I have brought the idea to the notice of those concerned in industry. I hope that employers will give every possible encouragement to their young employees to take advantage of these opportunities.
§ Mr. LindsayIn view of the fact that, through the intervention of my right hon. Friend, over 100 firms and some 50,000 boys took advantage of this scheme last year, will he make the decision known early, so that some staggering may take place?
