HC Deb 15 March 1944 vol 398 cc223-4
25. Mr. Vernon Bartlett

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the contract entered into with Mr. Butlin to sell him after the war a camp on the Welsh coast, built for Admiralty use during the war, was drawn up in consultation with the Ministry of Health and the local authorities.

The Civil Lord of the Admiralty (Captain Pilkington)

No, Sir.

Mr. Bartlett

In view of the fact that quite a number of people are worried about this contract and the effect it might have on the amenities on the neighbour- hood, could not a Paper be laid on the Table of the House?

Captain Pilkington

This matter is to be raised on the Adjournment shortly, and I think that it will then be cleared up quite satisfactorily.

Mr. A. Edwards

Is it not a fact that this site was owned by Mr. Butlin before the war for a camp, and that the Admiralty are merely using Mr. Butlin's own plans for their own convenience?

Captain Pilkington

That may be so, but, as I said, the matter is going to be cleared up.
