HC Deb 02 March 1944 vol 397 cc1579-80
56. Sir Leonard Lyle

asked the Minister of Supply to what extent civilian demands for M and B 760 or Cibazol tablets are now being met.

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply (Mr. Peat)

I am glad to say that during recent weeks there has been a substantial increase in the supply of sulphathiazole available for civilian use and production should now be adequate to enable all prescriptions to be met. The articles mentioned in the Question are proprietary brands.

Sir L. Lyle

Is it not a fact that the general practitioners, when they ask the manufacturers for supplies of M and B 760 are told that it is not available to civilian use, but only the old 693 which some people cannot take, and that, in consequence, people are suffering and dying?

Mr. Peat

I have nothing to add to the answer I have just given. It is now available, on a prescription, to everybody.
