HC Deb 29 June 1944 vol 401 c785
33. Mr. Graham White

asked the Secretary of State for India when the Commission of inquiry into the causes of food shortage and consequent epidemics in India is expected to begin its duties; and if he is satisfied that steps have been taken to offset the prospective shortage due to the damage to the wheat crop in April.

Mr. Amery

Until the names of the members have been announced I cannot give the actual date. I do not think it will be long. The damage to the wheat crop is not so great as was at one time feared; but the resulting loss is being taken into account in the measures adopted by His Majesty's Government, the Government of India and the Provincial Governments for the supply and distribution of foodgrains.
