HC Deb 29 June 1944 vol 401 c782
27. Mr. Bellenger

asked the Secretary of State for India whether officers and other ranks of the Indian Army are eligible for repatriation to England after extensive tours of duty in India.

The Secretary of State for India (Mr. Amery)

I assume that the hon. Member refers to British personnel of the Indian Army. The War Office scheme of cross-posting to the Home Establishment is by its nature not applicable to the Indian Army but as soon as shipping conditions made it possible I arranged for the opening of a leave scheme for Indian Army personnel. British Service personnel attached to, or serving with, the Indian Army are, however, eligible for consideration under the War Office scheme.

Mr. Bellenger

Do we understand that the personnel of the Indian Army will be on the same terms as regards leave as British personnel attached to the Indian Army?

Mr. Amery

I understand that they come under the same general scheme.
