HC Deb 22 June 1944 vol 401 c325
9. M. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health what further progress has been made in making premises that have recently been, or are likely to be, vacated by troops available for civilian accommodation; whether he will see that the provision that such premises shall be restored to their original condition shall not delay their transfer; whether local authorities will be empowered to renovate the premises and charge the War Office or the Air Ministry for so doing; and whether he will advise them to secure a list of all such properties in their areas.

Mr. Willink

The conference to which I referred in my reply last week has made considerable progress, but I am not yet in a position to make any announcement in this matter.

Mr. Sorensen

Is that conference considering the third and fourth points in my Question? I understand that it is sometimes laid down that the premises cannot be put to civil use because the military are under an obligation to restore them to their original condition.

Mr. Willink

The conference is proceeding on the lines that accommodation must be restored with the utmost possible speed.

Mr. Sorensen

When will the conference report?

Mr. Willink

I may be able to give my hon. Friend some information next week.
