HC Deb 22 June 1944 vol 401 cc349-50
Mr. Arthur Greenwood

May I ask the Leader of the House to state the Business for next week?

Mr. Eden

The Business of the House for next week will be as follows:

Tuesday, 27th June—Second Reading of the Parliamentary Electors (War-time Registration) Bill and of the Law Officers Bill.

Wednesday, 28th June—Report stage of the Finance Bill; Committee and remaining stages of the Parliamentary Electors (War-time Registration) Bill.

Thursday, 29th June—Supply: Committee (14th Allotted Day). The Ministry of Information Vote will be considered.

Friday, 30th June—Third Reading of the Finance Bill; Committee and remaining stages of the Law Officers Bill.

Mr. Greenwood

Can my right hon. Friend give us any further answer to a question asked by my right hon. Friend the Member for East Edinburgh (Mr. Pethick-Lawrence) yesterday, whether there could be an extension of time for to-day's Debate on Employment Policy?

Mr. Eden

We allotted three days, but as I have had representations from different quarters of the House, perhaps we may agree to having one extra hour to-day.

Mr. Maxton

Can the right hon. Gentleman inform us which section of the House asked for the Ministry of Information Debate next week?

Mr. Eden

Yes, Sir, my Liberal friends below the Gangway.

Mr. Maxton

Then it is not to be a serious attack on the Minister?

Mr. Eden

I am deeply shocked that the hon. Member could have conceived of such a thing.

Mr. Edgar Granville

In order to make next week's Debate on the Ministry of Information more interesting, shall we be able to discuss the Government's wartime control of the B.B.C.?

Mr. Eden

My right hon. Friend or anybody else, if he catches Mr. Speaker's eye, will have the opportunity of discussing anything which appears on the Ministry of Information Vote.
