HC Deb 21 June 1944 vol 401 cc165-6
8. Lady Apsley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the importance to the nation of British investment in Argentina, he has received any communication from the mission comprising three chairmen of British-owned companies who recently visited Argentina to discuss the problems facing the companies with the Argentine Government; and, if not, whether he will ascertain from them the nature of their conclusions.

Mr. Eden

The three visiting directors of the four British-owned broad gauge railways in Argentina called upon my right hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary on 14th June and discussed with him certain conclusions which they have reached, and which are embodied in a report prepared for their colleagues on the boards of the railways, who now have it under consideration.

Lady Apsky

May I request that my right hon. Friend keeps the matter under his personal consideration?

Mr. Eden

Yes, Sir, I certainly will, but I think it would be improper for me to comment until the boards have had a chance of considering the position.
