HC Deb 20 June 1944 vol 401 c28
61. Major Vyvyan Adams

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works if he will now install an efficient new wireless receiving set in the precincts of the House in view of the inefficiency of the existing old set.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works (Mr. Hicks)

The existing set has been repaired and is now, I am informed, in good order. Arrangements are being made for the supply of a new receiver which will enable a reserve set always to be available.

Major Adams

May I ask my hon. Friend why a week ago he implied that there was a new set? He then said: I understand that the Post Office have given a good set, and I suggest that we should try it.''—[OFFICIAT. REPORT, 13th June, 1944; Vol. 400, C. 1789.] If language means anything, did not the words of my hon. Friend mean that a new set had been installed?

Mr. Hicks

I informed my hon. and gallant Friend in correspondence that he and I will look at it, when I hope he will be satisfied.
