HC Deb 07 June 1944 vol 400 c1351
52. Viscount Suirdale

asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the long hours for which they work and the heavy work involved he will consider granting extra rations to agricultural workers during the period of the harvest; and whether, in cases where farm employees have not the accommodation for pig keeping, he will make arrangements to permit farmers to sell a fat pig to their regular employees for their consumption, in a manner similar to that allowed through the channels of a pig club.

Colonel Llewellin

Farmers may already obtain supplies of rationed food for the provision of meals for agricultural workers during harvest. Such workers are also eligible for the special ration of cheese at all times. In reply to the second part of the Question I hope to make an announcement on this subject in the near future.
