HC Deb 27 July 1944 vol 402 c896
65. Dr. Little

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the great shortage of houses in Northern Ireland, he will derequisition every requisitioned house no longer required, or likely to be required, for the accommodation of the military.

Mr. A. Henderson

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Lincoln (Mr. Liddall) on 25th July. That reply outlined the general policy followed in these cases by the War Department.

Dr. Little

As the matter is one of the greatest urgency in Northern Ireland, will not my hon. and learned Friend de-requisition houses by every means in his power?

Mr. Henderson

I can assure my hon. Friend that a considerable number of houses in Northern Ireland have already been de-requisitioned and considerably more will be as soon as possible.

Dr. Little

A great many more could be de-requisitioned.
