HC Deb 26 July 1944 vol 402 c741
4. Mr. Price

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the fact that the Japanese have executed Allied airmen who have been shot down over Japan, he will consult with other Allied Governments concerned with a view to exacting retribution for these murders.

Mr. Eden

The Allied airmen in question were Americans. In a statement on the subject of these executions issued on 21st April, 1943, President Roosevelt declared that the United States Government will hold personally and officially responsible for these diabolical crimes all of those officers of the Japanese Government who have participated therein and will in due course bring those officers to justice. I can assure the United States Government and the American people that they can rely upon the full support of His Majesty's Government in pursuing that aim.
