HC Deb 26 July 1944 vol 402 c749
22. Mr. Price

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he has inquired into the condition of technical and adult education in the Navy and especially into the status and pay of the schoolmaster grade in the service; and whether he proposes to make any changes.

Mr. Alexander

There have been considerable developments in adult education in the Navy since the Debate on this subject which took place on a Motion by my hon. Friend, and they will, I hope, continue. Changes in technical education depend on the technical requirements of the Service and although there has not been the same marked development in this form of education during the last four months, I have no reason to think that the facilities now available are inadequate. As I promised, I have instituted inquiry into the status of the schoolmaster branch of the Royal Navy but the subject is one of some complexity and the inquiry is not yet completed. I will undertake to inform by hon. Friend as soon as a conclusion is reached.
