§ 53. Mr. Priceasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is yet in a position to make any statement about the investigation into conditions of service, pay and prospects of scientific personnel in the Civil Service, which was stated by the Paymaster General to be in progress on 20th July, 1943.
§ Sir J. AndersonNo, Sir. Further investigation has proved to be necessary. Moreover, I cannot at present say whether it will prove possible to make a public statement about scientific staffs in advance of decisions on other sections of the Civil Service. I can, however, assure the hon. Member that the Government are fully alive to the importance of adequate arrangements for the recruitment of scientific staffs of high quality after the war.
