HC Deb 11 July 1944 vol 401 c1551
Mr. Speaker

I have to report to the House, that I have received the following letter from the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

The Speaker's Rooms,

House of Representatives, U.S.,

Washington, D.C.

May 20th, 1944.

My dear Mr. SPEAKER,

I have received through you the most kind and generous invitation from the British House of Commons to the United States House of Representatives to send a delegation of our Members to visit you and your House.

Speaking for the whole House of Representatives, be assured of our deep appreciation which the invitation and the kindly sentiments expressed therein, and, at the first moment that is convenient, your invitation will be taken up and given friendly consideration. We realise, as we know you do, the great responsibility resting upon our two great democracies, not only now but in the years that lie immediately ahead. We must, and I am sure we will, work together in the fateful days ahead as we have in the past. The friendship and common interest existing between our peoples dictates this, and we in America wish you to know that it is our every desire to work hand in hand with your great democracy, for the peace and well-being of us all.

With best wishes to you personally,

I am, Sincerely yours,

SAM RAYBURN, Speaker.

Colonel Right Hon. D. CLIFTON BROWN,

Speaker of the House of Commons, Speaker's House,

Palace of Westminster, S.W. 1,
