HC Deb 11 July 1944 vol 401 cc1562-3
20. Mr. Hynd

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the serious shortage of children's gymnasium shoes; and whether he will con- sider relaxing the restrictions with a view to enabling reasonable supplies of such shoes to be obtainable through the schools.

Mr. Dalton

The shortage of children's plimsolls is due to the scarcity of labour and materials for making them. I have been giving this matter my close attention, and I hope it may be possible to supplement the small home production by some additional supplies from overseas.
