§ 7. Sir John Mellorasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how long discussions have been in progress with the State Department in Washington about the American Claims Commission in the United Kingdom; and when they are expected to reach conclusion.
§ Mr. EdenI addressed a Note to the United States Government on this matter last November and a reply has now been received which is under urgent consideration at the moment. I hope before long to be able to inform the House that a solution of this complicated problem has been reached.
§ Sir J. MellorMeanwhile, is it just that persons injured by the neglect of American Army vehicles should be in a worse position than those injured by British Army vehicles?
§ Mr. EdenThe hon. Member has heard my reply. I have received a reply from the United States Government, and I hope that the matter will soon be settled. I agree that it is desirable in the interests of this country and of the United States that it should be settled very soon.
