HC Deb 26 January 1944 vol 396 c668
11. Sir Reginald Clarry

asked the Minister of Information whether the two newspapers, the "Union Jack" and the "Stars and Stripes," now circulating in North Africa, have been given any official status by the respective governments of Great Britain and the U.S.A.; and what is the situation regarding any newspaper published for the benefit of the French speaking community.

The Minister of Information (Mr. Brendan Bracken)

"Union Jack" is a newspaper produced by the British Army Newspaper Unit, Allied Forces Headquarters, for British troops in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. "Stars and Stripes" is printed for United States Armed Forces under the auspices of the Chief of Special Services European Theater of Operations, Services of Supply. His Majesty's Government has no responsibility for any newspaper published in French for the benefit of the French-speaking community.
