§ 14. Mr. G. Straussasked the Minister of Information whether, in his broadcasts to Portugal, he is taking steps to acquaint the Portuguese people with the dissatisfaction existing in this country on account of the heavy shipments of wolfram from that country to Germany.
§ Mr. BrackenYes, Sir.
§ Mr. StraussIs it the fact that no reference about this matter has been allowed in the Portuguese Press—no adverse comment?
§ Mr. BrackenI am not responsible, of course, for the conduct of the Portuguese Press, or for the English Press or any other Press, but let me say to my hon. Friend that broadcasting is not always the best medium for holding discussions between Allies. I am old-fashioned enough to believe that ambassadors are 670 better qualified to transact diplomatic business than are broadcasters.
§ Mr. StraussIs it not true that that method has not so far brought any success and that any additional pressure would be welcome?
