HC Deb 25 January 1944 vol 396 c509
1. Mr. Boothby

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the policy of His Majesty's Government with regard to regional water schemes in the country districts of Scotland.

The Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. T. Johnston)

An engineering survey of Scots water supplies is presently proceeding and consideration is being given to the best measures for improving rural water supplies, including especially joint arrangements between local authorities designed to make the most economic and efficient use of the available resources.

Mr. Boothby

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that it is very difficult for local authorities, county councils in particular, to plan ahead unless they have clear guidance from the Government in this matter?

Mr. Johnston

In this particular instance they are planning ahead and very effectively.
