HC Deb 20 January 1944 vol 396 cc358-9
49. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will confer with the Minister of Food for the purpose of discussing the post-war reconstruction of the poultry industry, in order that a pronouncement may be made at the earliest possible date by the Government, assuring existing poultry keepers of a reasonable living for the future, with special regard to the valuable protective food contained in eggs and that the claims of ex-Servicemen will be considered and arrangements made for their training and setting up in the poultry business.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. R. S. Hudson)

The future of the poultry industry will be considered, in the course of the discussions with representatives of the agricultural industry on post-war agricultural policy generally.

Mr. De la Bère

Will my right bon. Friend make an early public announcement, so that poultry keepers throughout the United Kingdom will know where they stand, as his recent pronouncement has caused much lack of confidence and misunderstanding? May I not have an answer to this question?
