HC Deb 23 February 1944 vol 397 c832
55. Mr. Thorne

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the manner in which oranges are being distributed; that the food offices are being given a lot of extra work because people tear off the back pages of their books and then call for another voucher; and if he can stop this practice and prevent some people getting more oranges than they are entitled to.

Colonel Llewellin

A number of applications have been received by some food offices for replacement of the back pages of ration books. Unauthorised defacement of a ration book is an offence under the Food Rationing (General Provisions) Order. Replacements are not made automatically. Applicants are required to sign a declaration giving details of the loss and, as far as possible, these are verified before replacement. A replacement fee of one shilling is charged.

Mr. Mathers

Would it be possible for the Minister to allocate some sugar to Scotland in order that the marmalade oranges available could be made into marmalade?
