HC Deb 23 February 1944 vol 397 cc829-30
50. Mr. Rhys Davies

asked the Minister of Supply why his Department requisitioned certain premises, of which he has been informed; whether he considered, before doing so, the beneficent work done there; and when they will be returned to their owners.

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply (Mr. Sandys)

In order to accommodate workmen engaged on certain very urgent work, it was unfortunately necessary to requisition for a short time the two convalescent homes to which my hon. Friend refers. One of these has now been released. The other will likewise be handed back before very long.

Mr. Davies

Will the hon. Gentleman bear in mind the excellent work done by convalescent homes in restoring people to health?

Mr. Sandys

I fully appreciate that it is generally undesirable to requisition premises of this kind. It was only done because of urgent necessity.
