HC Deb 22 February 1944 vol 397 c649
48. Captain Pluģģe

asked the Prime Minister if he will arrange for a salute of guns to be fired in honour of the soldiers on the occasion of any big successes of the Forces of the United Nations, such as the occupation of any of the three principal enemy capitals.

The Prime Minister

Personally I favour bells. We are likely to hear quite enough guns anyway.

Captain Pluģģe

Is my right hon. Friend not aware that such a salute could be broadcast to all parts of the Empire and would be a great stimulus to the Fighting Forces of the United Nations?
