HC Deb 22 February 1944 vol 397 c660
68. Major Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the strike of parents of children at a certain school in Barrhead and of their continued refusal to accede to the decision of the Renfrewshire Education Committee to compel these children to attend school in another part of the town; and has he any statement to make on the subject.

Mr. Westwood

My right hon. Friend is aware of the position that has arisen from the decision of the Renfrewshire education authority to reorganise educational provision at Barrhead. He has been in communication with the authority, and is sending the hon. Member a copy of a letter which is being addressed to the parents' representatives who have also been in communication with him on the subject.

Major Lloyd

In view of the continued strike in regard to the decision of the Renfrew education committee, and of the complete deadlock, will the Minister not do something to bring the parties together?

Mr. Westwood

We shall do everything possible to try to get an amicable and satisfactory settlement.
