§ 34. Major Conantasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is satisfied that the amount available from public funds for the establishment and maintenance of clubs for Service personnel is comparable to that available for clubs provided for transferred civilian workers.
Sir J. GriģģThe clubs for transferred civilian workers, to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers, meet a need which in the Army is met principally by regimental institutes and quiet rooms, for which accommodation and some other services are provided from public funds, and partly by canteens and similar activities financed by outside bodies. The two systems are so different that a fair financial comparison is impossible.
