45. Mr. Bernard Taylorasked the Minister of Agriculture, in view of the outbreaks of foot and mouth disease, whether he will consider placing a ban on the movement of store and dairy cattle for a period of 14 days when bought in a public market.
§ The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. R. S. Hudson)I have considered the suggestion very carefully, and am satisfied that it would not be practicable to prohibit the movement of store and dairy cattle for 14 days after their movement from public markets.
§ Mr. LevyIs it not the fact that a number of these cases are caused by cattle having to drink at stagnant water, because there is no fresh water for them to drink? What does my right hon. Friend propose to do with regard to water supplies for the rural and agricultural areas?
