HC Deb 02 February 1944 vol 396 c1259
38. Major Markham

asked the Minister of Health whether he has now considered the housing position in Nottingham; and whether he has a statement to make.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health (Miss Horsbrugh)

Yes, Sir. My right hon. and learned Friend is aware of the serious housing shortage in Nottingham, which, I am afraid, can be equalled in many other areas. Owing to the overriding demand for labour and materials for war purposes, we are not yet in a position to start any general programme of house construction, but the Government are considering whether it may be possible before long to initiate preparatory work, so as to expedite building when the time comes.
