HC Deb 02 February 1944 vol 396 cc1273-4
56. Major-General Sir Alfred Knox

asked the Minister of Supply whether, if it is impossible at once to resume the import of esparto grass, he will help in the preliminary reorganisation necessary to that import such as arrangements for leases from the French for the collection of the grass, the re-establishment of transport and the restoration of facilities at the ports which will require months to reorganise.

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply (Mr. Peat)

Inquiries are being made in North Africa on the arrangements necessary for a resumption of the importation of esparto grass when the shipping position renders this possible.
