HC Deb 20 December 1944 vol 406 cc1778-9
63. Vice-Admiral Taylor

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the Admiralty assessment of the value to naval officers of the accommodation provided for them in the Service.

The Civil Lord of the Admiralty (Captain Pilkington)

The Admiralty has made no assessment of the value to naval officers of the accommodation provided for them.

Vice-Admiral Taylor

Am I to understand from that answer that such accommodation is assumed to be entirely free, and not taken into account when calculating the rates of pay of officers and men in the Service?

Captain Pilkington

The two things are completely different. My hon. and gallant Friend's Question was whether any assessment had been made of the accommodation provided for officers in the Service, and the answer was that no assessment had been made.
