HC Deb 06 December 1944 vol 406 c524
45. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Prime Minister if he can now make any statement with regard to the amended regulations for the award of the 1939 and Africa Stars.

The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

The Prime Minister desires me to say that he must ask the indulgence of the House in this matter, on which he had hoped to make a statement before Christmas and now fears he must put off until we meet again. No time has been lost, as the matter has been under the closest examination. But many have to be consulted, included Dominion Governments.

Mr. Astor

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that not one Africa Star has yet been issued to a naval officer, because of the delay in taking decisions? Is he aware that that represents a considerable grievance for the officers concerned?

Mr. Attlee

I was not aware of that.
