HC Deb 05 December 1944 vol 406 cc326-7
6. Mr. M. MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered proposals or representations from the county councils of Ross and Cromarty and Inverness for rural house-building reconstruction and improvement in the Western Isles; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. T. Johnston

I have received no proposals or representations such as are referred to in the Question but if the hon. Member will furnish me with particulars I shall have inquiry made.

Mr. MacMillan

Will my right hon. Friend consider jogging these two county councils, who have such a bad past record in regard to housing, to get a move on, in view of the approaching end of the war?

Mr. Johnston

The Question on the Order Paper is whether I have considered proposals or representations from these councils. I have not had any. Circulars have been sent to all county councils.

Sir Herbert Williams

Does the right hon. Gentleman think it desirable that Scottish county councils should be jogged from London?

Mr. MacMillan

Is my right hon. Friend aware that that could very well be done from the Scottish Office in Edinburgh?
