HC Deb 05 December 1944 vol 406 c339
24. Mr. Burke

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many licences for the manufacture of aluminium ware have been granted recently and when may the public expect to find supplies in the shops.

Mr. Dalton

Twenty-one firms have applied for licences and these are now being issued. Supplies will be small at first, but some aluminium hollow-ware should be in the shops early in the New Year.

Mr. Burke

Is the Minister aware that a statement was made that there would be supplies of these goods immediately, and that only two firms have got licences so far?

Mr. Dalton

No, Sir. That is not the case. There were only 39 firms who made hollow-ware in the country. All were written to and asked if they wanted licences; 21 replied and are getting licences.
