§ 43. Mr. J. J. Lawsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can now announce the composition of his proposed Advisory Council on the Treatment of Offenders.
§ Mr. H. MorrisonYes, Sir, and I am glad to be able to tell the House that I have been fortunate in obtaining the services of Mr. Justice Birkett as chairman of the Council. I am circulating the full list of members in the OFFICIAL REPORT, and it will be seen that, in addition to persons with specialised knowledge of the subjects with which the Council will deal, I have, as I told the 1599 House was my intention, included men and women with other outlooks who will bring to the human problems confronting the council experience gained in varied walks of life.
§ Mr. GallacherHas the right hon. Gentleman considered my suggestion that an offender who has later on made good should be included in the Council?
§ Mr. MorrisonI did consider it. It was not without its attraction, but I have not been able to find a suitable offender.
