HC Deb 02 August 1944 vol 402 c1357
3. Mr. Woods

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is still his policy to supply arms and finance to the E.A.M., the National Liberation Movement of Greece; and what requests he has received from the Greek Government-in-Exile to cease such support.

Mr. Eden

As I informed the House on 27th July, His Majesty's Government still hope that E.A.M. will join the Greek Government. If they persist in their present unco-operative attitude His Majesty's Government's policy towards them, including such questions as the provision of supplies, will have to be reconsidered. In this matter we are naturally acting in close consultation with the Greek Government and I can assure my hon. Friend that there is no divergence of view between us.

Mr. Woods

Is it not the case that this is the only effective military organisation which is putting up any fight against the enemy in Greece?

Mr. Eden

There are a great many elements that enter into the situation. I do not think I can argue them all at Question time.

Mr. Woods

Is it not to all intents and purposes a parallel case to that of the Tito forces in Yugoslavia?

Mr. Eden

In many respects it is not at all parallel.
