HC Deb 02 August 1944 vol 402 cc1376-7
41. Mr. Astor

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty when it is proposed to issue the Africa Star to the Navy.

Mr. Alexander

It is intended to issue the Africa Star ribbon to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines as soon as the qualifications for the 1939–43 Star have been finally settled.

Mr. Astor

Can the First Lord give any indication of when this really unreasonable delay will have ended?

Mr. Alexander

I am afraid I cannot answer that. It is a question which depends upon the general settlement of the conditions of the 1939–43 Star, and which is not confined to my Department.

Mr. Astor

In the meanwhile the Navy is waiting.
